Towns scored 13 of 17 attempts, including three three-pointers, and showed no effects after a hit on the face with about a minute left in the first half. His 37 points represented his highest number of the season.

In the beginning of the last quarter of this optional defensive duel, the Wizards were ahead 90-82. The locals extended the margin to 95-85 with 10 minutes to play, but a 20-3 rally that Andrew Wiggins crowned with a basket near the hoop to pass Towns, put Minnesota in front 105-98 with less than five minutes and a half on the clock.

After the Wizards approached 111-109, Towns made a 3-pointer with 29 seconds remaining to restore the five-unit lead.

All the holders finished with at least 10 points for the Timberwolves, who came from a triumph over the Golden State Warriors. Wiggins contributed 16 points and Nemnja Bjelica had 17 points with eight rebounds and seven assists.
